Hanuman is well known for his profound devotion to Lord Ram. Lord Ram is the re-incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Pawan putra, as he is endearingly addressed, dedicated his entire life in the service of Lord Ram. In his words, “I am subservient to Lord Ram. And Lord Ram is my master”.

What is Jai Shri Ram ?
Jai Shri Ram is the Hindi Translation of Hail Lord Ram. “Shri” is the Hindi salutation which is used to depict respect towards males, likewise “Shrimati”, “Devi” is the respectable female salutation. Thus “Jai Shri Ram” translates to “Praise Lord Ram”
Pawan putra or Rudra Avatar or Anjaneya(son of Anjani) are the most common modes to address Lord Hanuman. He would utter “Jai Shri Ram” every time before starting something. Anything, task, work or daily activity that he would do, which could be very trivial or critical, would be preceded as well as superseded with cries of “Jai Shri Ram”.

- Lord Indra who is the supreme god of heaven had hit Lord Hanuman in his childhood with his weapon named Vajra. This infuriated the god of wind Vayu dev or Pawan dev. To pacify him, Indra granted a boon to Lord Hanuman saying no weapon in the universe would be able to harm him.
- The water God, Lord Varun blessed Hanuman saying that “water can cause no harm to you & you will be able to breathe like a fish, in water.
- The Sun God blessed him with his eternal wisdom & guided him to reach the stage of self actualization on the path of his spiritual journey.
- The God of creation, Lord Brahma blessed him with a boon saying Hanuman can never be injured.
- The Goddess Sita blessed Lord Hanuman to be immortal(chiranjeevi). He was granted all the possible unbelievable, magical, mystical powers which exist in this universe(ashta siddhi & nava nidhi – laghima, garima etc. He could take any form, he could become as small as an atom, become unbelievable huge, travel with the speed of thought/mind which is much higher than the speed of light)
- The God of Fire – Lord Agni blessed him to be immune to fire i.e fire can’t burn him.
- The God of Death- Lord Yama blessed Lord Hanuman saying, “I will never approach you.”
- The God of wealth, Lord Kuber blessed Hanuman saying, “you will be never feel tired whether in a battle or otherwise”. He was also gifted an all conquering weapon in the form of a mace(gada)
- Lord Ram blessed him saying you will live & be remembered in ‘this world till the name of “Lord Ram” keeps reverberating in this universe. The number of devotees & temples of Hanuman on this planet will overwhelmingly outnumber those of Ram’
Thus Lord Hanuman’s intense & profound devotion, his humility, humble nature & deep sense of gratitude towards Lord Shri Ram made him one of the most revered figure in Indian history. His devotees recite Sri Hanuman Chalisa regularly, especially on Saturdays & Tuesdays.
