Important Dates in the Hindu Calendar of 2025

India is a country where different faiths coexist. There are a lot of festivals celebrated in a year along with various rituals. For convenience, according to the Hindu calendar & Panchang a list of various important & auspicious dates are being listed below. Some dates involve fasting & praying ritualistically like Ekadashi, MahaShivratri, Janmashtami etc.
Other dates & occasions like Diwali, Holi, Pitrapaksh involve rituals being performed using all possible sacrosanct procedures.
Ekadashi, Festivals & Fast(vrat) in January 2025
10th January = Ekadashi (Putrada Ekadashi)
13th January = Poornima(Full Moon day), Lohri/Lohdi.
14th January – Makar Sankranti – First Shahi Snan at Maha Kumbh Mela

25th January = Ekadashi (Shat-tila Ekadashi)
29th January = Amavasya (No Moon Day) = Mauni Amavasya = second Shahi Snan at Maha Kumbh Mela
On the day of Mauni Amavasya it is considered mandatory to have bath while observing silence. Ideally, on the day of Mauni Amavasya, one should take a vow of silence(maun vrat) for 1 full day. It means that the vow of silence should start from sunrise on 29th January(in 2025), up to sun rise on the following day(30th January) 2025.
However, 1 full day’s vow of silence is difficult to follow then one must try to observe silence at least till one has bath. It means that starting from brahma muhurat(75 minutes before dawn) to the time one has bath one must observe complete silence. If possible one must have bath in a holy river like the rivers Ganga ji, Jamuna ji, Shipra ji, Narmada ji, Godavari ji etc
After bath one must do jap(mantra chanting), donate food items, clothes, money to the needy & the poor.

2nd February = Basant Panchami = date to celebrate & express gratitude to the Goddess of knowledge- Goddess Saraswati.
Basant Panchami Tithi will start at 09:14 AM on February 2, 2025. On February 3 2025, at 06:53 AM the Panchami Tithi comes to an end.

1st November = Bhishma Panchak vrat(start of 5 days fasting from 1st November to 5th November)
2nd November = Devuthi Ekadashi = Trisparshaa Ekadashi (Trisprasha Ekadashi) = Chaturmaas ends = Start of Tulsi Vivah(2nd November – 5th November)
Tulsi Vivaah is celebrated by Hindus by praying to Goddess Tulsi(Holy Basil) & Lord Vishnu by offering/lighting a lamp of pure ghee near the pot of Tulsi plant & performing circumambulations(7 or 11 or 21 or 51 or 108)
Fasting on Trisparshaa Ekadashi is equal to fasting on 1000 Ekadashis. That’s how significant a Trisparshaa Ekadashi is.
What is a Trisparshaa Ekadashi or Trisprasha Ekadashi?
That day of Ekadashi on which three tithis touch & are simultaneously present is known as Trisparshaa or Trisprasha Ekadashi. It means, according to the Hindu way of calculation of tithis ie days, on this day Ekadashi would have ended at any time after sunrise. Then the whole day & night it would be counted as Dwadashi. And at any time before Sunrise of the next day, Trayodashi would have started
What is Ekadashi, Dwadashi & Trayodashi?
According to the Hindu way of counting days & months, a Hindu month is made up of 2 lunar cycles of 15 days each. Starting from one day after Amavasya(No Moon Day) to Poornima(Full Moon Day) constitutes one lunar cycle of 15 days. Then starting from one day after Poornima to Amavasya constitutes the other lunar cycle of 15 days.
